Frustrated with Glasses or Contact Lenses?
LASIK may award you visual freedom.
Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism are all caused by an irregular shape of the cornea. When you have these vision conditions, varying degrees of glasses or contact lens prescriptions are necessary to let you see clearly. While these vision aids are effective, they can be a daily hassle as well as a strain on your finances.
In LASIK vision correction, lasers are used to alter the cornea’s shape so it will allow light entering the eyes to properly focus on the back of the eye (the retina). At Eye Center of Northern Colorado, we actually use multiple laser platforms to perform blade-free, custom LASIK. This allows our doctors to choose the very best technologies for your unique eyes.
Steps in LASIK
Our LASIK process involves several steps:
- Measurements of your unique eye: to provide truly custom LASIK, we use Wavescan 3D mapping to take precise measurements of your corneal shape and iris so we can give you the best vision results possible.
- Creation of a corneal flap: we use the Wavelight FS200 femtosecond laser to replace the manual blade method of flap creation. It is necessary to create a corneal flap so we can access the underlying corneal tissue.
- Corneal reshaping: the ALLEGRETTO WAVE® Eye-Q 500 excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea in just a few minutes. Contoura™ Vision technology allows even more precise and safe correction.
- Flap replacement: the corneal flap is repositioned on the eye where it begins healing immediately.
Most people do not describe the process as painful. Recovery typically takes 24-48 hours.
Is LASIK Right for You?
Not everyone who wears glasses or contacts is automatically a good candidate for LASIK. You must have the right eye characteristics and overall good eye health in order for this to be a safe and effective procedure. The only way to find out is by having a comprehensive exam by a LASIK doctor.
Eye Center of Northern Colorado offers free LASIK Consultations to assess your eye health. During the consultation, you will learn if LASIK might be a good option for clear vision. We will supply you with detailed information about technologies, risks, our doctors’ expertise, and other facts about LASIK so you can make the decision to pursue the procedure.
There is never any obligation to proceed; never any pressure from our staff.
